Terms and licence
Written to be read. Where the law gives you a right, this page says so plainly rather than burying it, because a term that only works if you do not notice it is not a term worth having.
Who you are dealing with
Strata is made and licensed by Kapybara LLC. When you buy, your contract of sale is with Dodo Payments, who act as merchant of record: they take the payment, handle sales tax and VAT, and appear on your card statement and your receipt.
That split matters in one practical way. Questions about the software, your licence key, or how the app behaves come to us at support@stratamaccleaner.com. Questions about the transaction itself, an invoice, or tax can go to either of us. We would rather you wrote to us first and we passed it on.
What you are buying
A permanent licence to use Strata at the tier you paid for. Not a subscription, not a rental, and not something that expires. Specifically:
- It does not run out. There is no renewal date and no moment at which the app stops working.
- It covers every Mac you own. We do not count machines, because counting them would require the app to contact us, and it does not.
- Bug fixes, security fixes and macOS compatibility updates are free, at every tier, forever. You will never be asked to pay to keep a version you already own working on a newer macOS.
- New features arrive as a higher tier, which you may buy at any time for the difference in price. Moving up one step at a time costs exactly what jumping straight to the top costs.
What the licence does not allow
The licence is for you, or for the organisation that bought it. You may not sell, sublicense, rent or publish your licence key, or use one key to supply the software to people outside your household or organisation.
We have deliberately built no mechanism to stop you. Verification happens on your Mac with no network involved, which is a choice we made for your privacy and which we are not going to undo by adding an activation server. That choice puts the arrangement on trust, and this paragraph is what that trust looks like written down.
Buying more than a handful? Write to us. There is a sensible arrangement for teams and it is cheaper than buying keys one at a time.
What the software does to your files
Strata can move files to the Trash. It never deletes anything permanently: every removal goes through the same system call Finder uses, everything it removes can be recovered with Put Back or with the app's own one-step undo, and there is no mode that bypasses this.
You are nonetheless the person deciding what to remove. The app shows you every item before anything moves, rates how confident it is about each match, and leaves the uncertain ones unticked. Keep backups. That is true of any software that touches files, including ours.
Warranties, and the ones we cannot exclude
The software is provided as it is. We do not warrant that it will be free of defects, that it will suit a particular purpose you have in mind, or that it will run without interruption.
If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU, that paragraph does not take away your statutory rights, and nothing on this page can. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 in the UK, and equivalent law across the EU, digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for its described purpose, and as described. If it is not, you are entitled to a repair, a replacement or a refund, and you keep that right whatever this page says.
Limits on what we owe you
To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim connected to Strata is limited to what you paid for your licence.
We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. In particular, nothing here limits the statutory rights described above.
Updates
The app can check for updates and install them, and you choose whether it does so automatically the first time it asks. Updates are signed, and the app refuses any that is not.
We may stop supporting very old versions of macOS in new releases. Your existing version keeps working on your existing system; nothing is switched off remotely, because there is no mechanism by which we could.
If you break these terms
If you publish or resell your licence key, we may stop honouring it for support and for future upgrade pricing. We cannot and will not reach into your Mac to disable software you are running.
Changes to these terms
We may update this page. Changes apply to purchases made after they are published, never retroactively to a licence you already own. The date at the bottom is the date of the current version.
Law and courts
These terms are governed by the laws of the state in which Kapybara LLC is registered, and disputes may be brought in its courts.
If you are a consumer in the UK or the EU, that does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, or of your right to bring proceedings there.
