What Strata sends over the network
Nothing Strata reads about your files, your apps or your Mac leaves your Mac. It has no account, no telemetry, no analytics and no crash reporting. The only thing it fetches is its own updates.
The one exception: its own updates
With Update Strata automatically on, which is the default, Strata makes two kinds of request, both to this website:
- every hour, it reads
stratamaccleaner.com/appcast.xml, the list of versions; - when there is a newer version, it downloads the disk image from
stratamaccleaner.com/downloads.
Every update is signed, and Strata refuses one whose signature does not match the key it was built with. The requests carry what any download does, such as the app's name and version, and nothing more: no system profile, and nothing about you, your files or your licence.
Turn Update Strata automatically off in Settings, and Strata makes no requests of its own at all. It then looks for an update only when you choose Check for Updates… or Check Now.
What is never sent
- Your files, their names, their sizes, or the results of any scan. Scans, snapshots and searches stay in Strata's own folders on your Mac.
- Your licence key. It is checked on your Mac with cryptography, so activation works offline and there is no activation server.
- How you use the app. There are no analytics and no crash reports.
- Anything about other apps. Strata does not check other apps for updates or look anything up about them online: when each app was last opened comes from Spotlight's record on your Mac.
What Strata reads, locally
To do its job Strata reads the sizes and dates of files and folders, the apps you have installed and when you last opened them (from Spotlight), what starts itself at login, what is inside installers in your Downloads (without installing them), and the Mac's own readouts: the processor, memory, battery, temperatures and network speed. For the network it reads the Wi-Fi signal's strength and speed, never the name of the network.
Links that leave the app
Some buttons open a page in your browser or your mail app, which then makes the request: Strata Help, Contact Support, the full changelog, and Buy Strata Pro. Nothing is sent before you click them.
The website's own policy, including what is collected when you buy (by our payment provider, not by the app), is on the privacy page.
