Unused Apps
Unused Apps lists the apps you have not opened in the time you choose, using Spotlight's own record on this Mac. Looking is free. Uninstalling or moving apps to the Trash needs Strata Pro.
How it decides an app is unused
Choose the span at the top: 3 Months (the default), 6 Months or 1 Year. An app is listed when:
- it was last opened before that span began; or
- it has no record of being opened, and has been on the Mac longer than the span; or
- it has neither date at all.
The dates come from Spotlight's record on this Mac: when each app was last used, and when it arrived. Nothing is looked up online. macOS's own apps, Strata itself, and the aliases macOS keeps in Utilities are never listed.
Each row says when the app was last opened, or "No record of being opened" with the month it arrived. The list starts with the least used; Largest and Name sort it the other ways.
Uninstalling one, the thorough way
Every row has Uninstall…, which opens the app in the Uninstaller with its leftovers found and graded: its caches, preferences and support files go with it. This is the way to remove an app completely.
Moving several apps at once
Tick apps, or use Select All, and press Move to Trash…. This moves the apps alone, after the usual confirmation. To take the files each app keeps elsewhere too, uninstall them in the Uninstaller instead, which also takes several apps at once.
"Not opened" is not the same as "not needed". Some apps do their work without being opened: a printer driver's utility, a font manager, a backup helper. When in doubt, check what an app is for before removing it. Everything goes to the Trash, so a mistake costs one click.
