How to give Strata Full Disk Access
macOS hides some folders from every app until you allow it. Full Disk Access lets Strata measure them too, so its totals are complete. It is the only permission Strata needs to read the disk.
What you need
- Strata in your Applications folder.
- Your Mac's login password or Touch ID, which System Settings may ask for.
Steps
-
Open the setting
Press Open Settings… on the card Strata shows when it opens. Or open System Settings yourself, choose Privacy & Security in the sidebar, then Full Disk Access.
-
Switch Strata on
Find Strata in the list and turn its switch on. If macOS asks for your password or Touch ID, that is macOS, in its own window.
-
Reopen Strata
macOS applies the change only when an app starts. Press Quit and Reopen in Strata, or quit Strata and open it again. The next scan sees everything.
If something goes wrong
- Strata is not in the list: press the plus button under the list, go to Applications, choose Strata and press Open. Then switch it on.
- It is on, but Strata still says folders could not be read: quit Strata fully (from the menu bar panel or the Strata menu, not just by closing the window) and open it again.
- You moved or replaced Strata: macOS may not recognise the new copy. Remove Strata from the list with the minus button, add it again, and reopen it.
What the permission covers, and why no app can switch it on for you, is in Why apps ask for Full Disk Access. Apple describes the setting in Change Privacy & Security settings on Mac.
